![]() Vision and MobilityVision services are provided through either direct instruction or consultative model. Direct services include teaching compensatory skills such as Braille, use of taped materials or computer skills. Vision service staff provide assistance to students in learning the use of specialized equipment such as an abacus, Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) or note takers such as a Braille n'Speak or a Type n'Speak. Visually impaired students are instructed in scanning and tracking information by vision or touch and as well as learning to organize and interpret visual/tactual information. Consultation to classroom staff includes classroom organization, materials modification and teaching strategies. Orientation and mobility instruction is age appropriate, individualized training which teaches students with visual impairments to move safely and independently in home, schools and community environments. Direct mobility services include work on: body image, directional concepts, protective techniques, sighted guide, use of a cane, wheelchair use, walker use, use of distance low vision devices, street crossing, campus travel, residential travel, business area travel and use of public transportation.
